Following six months of planning, the Stable Population Party was formed on 11 February 2010. After gaining more than 500 members across Australia, the party was registered by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) on 23 September 2010 (just after the August 2010 federal election).

The Stable Population Party is an incorporated association registered with the Department of Fair Trading in NSW. Although registered in NSW, the party is a national body with proportionate membership numbers in every Australian state and territory.
